An extensive 60-day journey circling Australia is being halted in the wake of the fatal incident of an senior lady who was abandoned by the ship on a distant island.

Suzanne Rees had been trekking on the remote island with shipmates from the vessel, but separated from the party for a pause. The vessel left without her and returned later that day after the personnel realised the lady was not present.

An extensive rescue mission located her person the next day.

Authorities are looking into the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator stated that passengers and crew on the vessel were told that the remainder of the cruise had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and earlier technical problems".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that guests would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the travel back of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Officials also released an updated communication, and said they had "issued a order to the Master" prohibiting any additional guests from boarding the vessel.

The official said that they would inspect the liner in the port city upon its coming back.

Sequence of Incidents

The vessel initially left the coastal city on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the time of the 80-year-old's death. Lizard Island was the first stop on the voyage.

Passengers on the ship - who typically pay substantial amounts of dollars to participate in the cruise - were taken there for a shore visit with the option of walking or snorkelling.

Family Statement

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "shocked and saddened that the ship left Lizard Island after an scheduled tour without my mum".

Through her comments, she described her mum as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a affiliate of a hiking group.

"According to scant information we have been told, it seems that there was a lapse of care and basic judgment," she said.

She further stated that she hoped the investigation would be able to identify what "the company should have performed that might have saved Mum's existence".

"Based on information from the police that it was a very hot afternoon, and she took sick on the hill climb," she revealed.

"Officials suggested her to return, alone. Then the ship sailed away, reportedly without doing a passenger count.

"During some point in that process, or shortly after, mum succumbed, by herself."

Operator Position

In a statement, the Head verified that the company was "collaborating extensively with officials to assist their examination".

He said that the company was "very regretful that this has transpired" and had provided its total backing to the relatives.

Cruise Industry Standards

The liner caters for up to 120 passengers with 46 crew, according to official details. It was specifically designed to reach distant areas of the Australian coastline and is equipped with "auxiliary vessels" - compact vessels used to take travelers on day excursions.

Occurrences of this nature are infrequent, and liners have procedures to document which individuals are getting on or leaving, according to travel authorities.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] on the ship really isn't an option," an authority stated.

Vessel operators regard these procedures extremely carefully and have "sophisticated systems in place to stop such events from happening," the authority further stated.
