Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds. Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT. Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup. Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four during the early running. Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier. The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the last turn on to the start-finish straight. Hamilton finished practice in 19th, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace. Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
