Liverpool's Manager Offers No Excuses and Vows to Plot Route From Slump

Liverpool's head coach declared he had to “look at myself” after Liverpool suffered a sixth loss in 7 English top-flight matches at home against Forest and affirmed he would discover a way from the champions’ poor run.

Forest, fighting against the drop prior to the match, delivered the biggest victory at Liverpool's stadium in their history as the Merseyside club slipped to an 8th loss in eleven matches in all competitions. The most expensive domestic acquisition, Alexander Isak, was again unnoticeable and the home side contended the defender's first goal ought to have been disallowed for similar reasons to the captain's chalked-off goal versus City before the international break. But the manager conceded the buck stopped with him and made no excuses.

“Nobody wants to listen to me now speaking about refereeing decisions if you lose 3-0 in your own stadium to Forest,” stated the Liverpool head coach. “I should look at my own role initially and my team, but it demonstrates you how a score can change the momentum of a match. Earlier I was just hoping for us to net a goal. Later we barely generated any chances.

“Of course there is a path forward, especially with the talented footballers we have. No matter if you triumph or lose when you look back you are always thinking: ‘In which areas can we do better, in what aspects can we make changes?’ but that is different from questioning yourself.

“I wish to emphasise I am accountable for the present defeats. You are responsible when you are victorious but also liable when you are defeated. I can not provide enough reasons for us to have the results we have. That is far from acceptable and I am to blame for that.”

The team's performance fell apart as Slot introduced multiple offensive changes when pursuing the match. “It was the identical on the road at Forest the previous campaign,” he remarked. “I took Ibou [Ibrahima Konaté] out and put on the Portuguese forward and he scored immediately to make it 1-1. Then it was courageous, currently it’s likely stupid.”

The Anfield side last lost back-to-back home league fixtures against Nottingham Forest in the sixties. The last time they suffered back-to-back top-flight games by a 3-0 scoreline was in 1965.

The manager commented: “It was very bad. Playing on home soil, losing 3-0 regardless of which opponent you encounter is a terrible outcome. Unexpected if you look at the first half-hour of the game. I haven’t seen us creating so much in the opening half-hour maybe the whole season, and the first time they arrived in our penalty area they found the back of the net.

“It wasn’t against Manchester City, but in all other fixture we have been the controlling team and were able to create opportunities. Lately it is nearly consistently that we miss our chances and the attempts we concede go in.”
