Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any destruction is unclear and the American officials has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

That preceding assault - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with great effectiveness and shot down a series of missiles," it added.

The statement noted debris landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
