🔗 Share this article Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons. During the fall season, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often marked by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit. A Significant Investment On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters. "My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer." A President's Endorsement In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its peculiarly charming appeal. "All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Wholesome Alternative When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this charming family go about their daily lives. In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises. “It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.” Future Seasons Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan. The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
